Good Music
I like all kinds of music genres and am fond of several different bands. I've worked security (right in front of the stage) for Diamond Rio (country band) and was the only Caucasian in Joe Louis Arena for a Run DMC concert, and everything in between. However, since 1993 there has been one band and one voice that I have enjoyed the most. Pear Jam led by lead singer Eddie Vedder. His voice and their music is very important to me. For one, I think Vedder is extremely talented and a great song writer. I also think he has one of the most unique singing voices. He had a troubled upbringing and comes from a broken home. Many of his songs have incredibly deep meaning and if you have ears to hear...most have a spiritual depth to them that mimic a gospel parable or a Psalm from King David. Their music is also associated with meaningful relationships. I spent a summer driving across the country with my dear friend, Travis Bass, listening to nothing except the voice of Eddie Vedder. My relationship with another dear friend, Andy Blackston, began because of a mutual affection for this band. Another special friend, Scott Samuels, traveled to Toronto with me last summer to hear the band. And of course me and my brother have been to Chicago and Nashville following the band and enjoying their music.
The band has been playing for 20 years now and have mellowed out significantly. Some of my fondest memories are the times I've spent bloodied in a mosh pit while Eddie Vedder and the band played long and hard (something most people probably didn't know about me!).
Check this recent song out from their latest album and then contrast that with the "early days" on the second clip.
"Just Breathe"
"Alive" (this song is about when Eddie was told by his mother that his father is really his step-father and his real father died when he was a little boy)
