I've written before about my favorite band, Pearl Jam. I remember sitting in chapel at ACU back in 1993 and being so excited because Mike Cope (the speaker in chapel that day) referred to Pearl Jam's music as "pre-Christian." I always thought that, but it was confirmed by an older preacher! Most of Eddie Vedder's songs have deep spiritual meaning (mostly about not loving material things, etc.). He spends a lot of time reaching out to troubled teens and people who feel lost (and donating to such causes). I'm convinced that he's on a spiritual journey; although he hasn't landed on Jesus as Messiah yet! I always say, "He's a Christian, but he just doesn't know it." While this song (actually written by Bob Dylan) uses some language simply for shock value, I think the overall message is impressive. Especially the verse about money.
Enjoy.
